PREPARING FOR MASS:
As we all start preparing to return to Mass I thought this would be a good time to give you some ways to make Mass more engaging for your family.
My first tip - Prepare for Mass by reading the Scriptures BEFORE you attend or watch Mass this Sunday. That way, the readings are familiar to your family. Read the child-friendly ones below and then consider looking them up in your family Bible. Talk with your children about what the readings mean. This will help your child pay attention better during Mass.
I also encourage you to pray before you read or hear the Sunday Scripture. Ask God to help you learn something new, something that will help you do a better job following Jesus. Try something like:
"God, show me one way in these readings or this Mass that I can become a-better-version-of-myself this week!"
AND THIS WEEKEND...DON'T FORGET TO WEAR RED, a St. Mike Pentecost tradition!!!
Here are child-friendly readings for this weekend.
PLAN A PENTECOST "HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHURCH" PARTY
This week, after you read the Scripture, start planning a birthday party. You can have the kids decorate the house for a birthday party for the Church. Make a
Pentecost birthday cake or if its too hot, make
Pentecost sundaes! Make "
tongues of fire" headpieces for everyone to wear!
SING SONGS
Sing the Pentecost song! Tune of “Are You Sleeping”
Tongues of fire, tongues of fire,
driving wind, driving wind,
Holy Spirit’s coming! Holy Spirit’s coming!
Let Him in. Let him in.
Introduce the 12 Fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, self-control, faithfulness, gentleness, modesty and chastity with this song/video.
